Lynne Maguire

As far back as I can remember, it has always been horses and art on my mind.  Yes, life has taken me down many roads, to say the least. I’ve maneuvered backroads, city streets, done U-turns, round-abouts, and dead-ends. I’ve gone to school, to college, got married, not married, had kids, taught kids, gained weight, lost weight. I’ve lived on the coast and in the desert. I’ve experienced many turns of life’s capricious carousel, but one thing has remained virtually the same, my love for horses and art.

I’ve ridden horses for years, have drawn greeting cards for classmates and once considered medical illustration, but decided it was just too dull, too technical, not for me. I had a need then, and still do, to laugh, be silly, enjoy the brighter side of life and share it with others.

The inspiration for the books and cards I create comes from deep within, moved by Spirit, that Divine Intelligence that has propelled me in a positive direction and kept me safe for most of my life. I can remember vividly as a young mother drawing at my art desk. At that time, I had no idea what direction my art was going to take.  As I drew, colorful stories began to race through my mind. I couldn’t draw fast enough.  So I began writing and illustrating what I was viewing in the lens of my mind. What resulted was five creative, colorful books full of fun and fantasy.

My two loves, art and horses, were brought together twenty five years ago when I moved to the extraordinary city of Santa Fe.  I taught for twenty three years in Santa Fe as an art and elementary teacher, all the while continuing with my art. The landscape of the high desert, the cultural diversity of this city and the horse loving environment captured my imagination.  I believe in the healing power of horses and laughter and merged the two in the creation of The Horse Lovers’ Greeting Cards.

I am well into my golden years, and will continue to create artwork that can bring laughter and enjoyment to all.
